Smart Fleets: Integrating AI in Route Planning and Vessel Operations

Vessel performance optimization has moved well past static passage planning. Across the Ocearis Alliance managed fleet, AI-assisted route planning now ingests real-time satellite weather, ocean current, and sea-state data to recompute optimal tracks mid-voyage.

The operational impact has been significant: managed vessels running the AI-weather-routing pilot have recorded up to 8% lower heavy fuel oil consumption per voyage compared to traditional great-circle routing, without adding transit time on the majority of tested legs.

Our bridge teams remain firmly in command — the system surfaces recommended track adjustments for the Master's review rather than issuing autonomous instructions, keeping full operational authority on the bridge while giving officers a stronger data picture than conventional weather routing services alone.

We are now extending the same data pipeline into engine performance monitoring, correlating routing decisions with shaft power and specific fuel consumption to close the loop between voyage planning and technical performance reporting.
